Aksaray University Department of Biology PhD student Gülseren Kışoğlu has successfully completed her doctoral thesis defense entitled “Leaf and Stem Anatomy of the Species Belonging to the Hymenostegis Bunge and Hymenocoleus Bunge Sections of the Genus Astragalus L. (Fabaceae) in Turkey” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Seher Karaman.
In this thesis study, the leaf and stem anatomical characteristics of related species belonging to the genus Astragalus, distributed in Turkey, were investigated in detail, and the effectiveness of anatomical characters in species identification was evaluated. The study aimed to clarify the taxonomic boundaries between the phylogenetically closely related sections Hymenostegis and Hymenocoleus and to contribute to the resolution of taxonomic problems within the genus Astragalus through micromorphological and biostatistical data.
