As part of the ongoing celebrations for April 16 Biologists’ Day, the Department of Biology at Aksaray University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences organized a technical field trip to Ihlara Valley on April 17, 2025, involving the participation of biology students. This hands-on experience provided students with an opportunity to engage in field observations and learn in the natural environment.
The trip began with a visit to the Ihlara Glass Terrace, where a group photo was taken with students and faculty members. Following the photo session, the group embarked on a scientific exploration along the Ihlara–Belisırma hiking route.
At the start of the trail, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Cemal Darılmaz gave a brief informative talk about the natural and cultural significance of the area. The group then proceeded to visit historical churches located along the route, where the ecological importance of these sites was discussed.
Throughout the trip, faculty members specializing in botany and zoology provided students with in-depth information about the flora (plant diversity) and fauna (animal diversity) of the region. Students had the chance to observe various species of plants and animals, including endemic plant species and a variety of bird species, in their natural habitat.
This technical trip, conducted in a field training format, allowed students to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with practical experiences. Additionally, the event fostered an interdisciplinary learning environment, where students could blend their scientific curiosity with the natural world.
The Department of Biology aims to enhance students' environmental awareness, strengthen their connection with nature, and contribute to their academic development through such engaging activities.
