The Department of Biology at Aksaray University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences organized a vibrant and engaging event to celebrate April 16 – Biologists’ Day, which received great interest from both students and academic staff.
The event began in the faculty conference hall with a moment of silence in remembrance of the Founder of the Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, and all our fallen heroes, followed by the Turkish National Anthem. Opening speeches were delivered by Head of Department Prof. Dr. Kamile Öztürk and Dean Prof. Dr. Talat Baran. The keynote speaker of the event, Dr. Bülent Gözcelioğlu, delivered a compelling presentation titled “Biodiversity of the World through Photographs: A Journey of Discovery”, sharing his unique experiences and biodiversity observations from around the globe. Following the presentation, Dr. Gözcelioğlu answered questions from students and provided valuable information about TÜBİTAK’s student support programs. At the end of his session, he was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a bouquet of flowers.
In the afternoon session, the event continued in the faculty foyer with poster presentations and a biological material exhibition prepared by students of the Department of Biology. The exhibition was enriched with refreshments and live music, creating a warm and interactive atmosphere. The posters featured original topics ranging from genetics and biotechnology to ecology. Faculty members and students from other departments such as Physics, Chemistry, and Molecular Biology also participated, engaging in thoughtful discussions and exchanging feedback.
At the conclusion of the event, the academic staff evaluated the student posters and selected the top three presentations, which were awarded with certificates of appreciation and gifts. The day ended on a joyful note as faculty members and students spent pleasant time together, accompanied by music.
This meaningful event by the Department of Biology was highly appreciated for promoting scientific production, interdisciplinary interaction, and strong student-faculty collaboration.
